K-State's Black Student Union partners with Target Corp.
Submitted by Bryon K. Williams
K-State's Black Student Union is adding another corporate partnership to its ranks. For the 2014-2015 school year, Target Corp. has approved a $4,000 dollar grant proposal for Black Student Union's College to Career Initiative. This initiative focuses on the retention of Black Student Union members as well on the career development and exploration of those members.
Throughout the year, Black Student Union and Target will collaborate on various professional development opportunities. During this workshop, Black Student Union members will learn about the Target Corp. and the tremendous employment opportunities that are available to them. In addition, students will have a chance to gain skills in interviewing, resume building, professional dress and other professional decorum.
Some of these opportunities took place recently, as Target conducted interview training for Black Student Union members, as well as had mock interviews for organizational members at K-State's career and employment services.
In addition to career development, the grant will also be used to provide emergency assistance to Black Student Union students who are under financial hardship. Target and the K-State Black Student Union understand that affordability is a large piece of the puzzle when it comes to retaining students, and this new partnership moves a long way toward contributing to affordability for our students.
The Black Student Union thanks its new corporate partner, Target Corp., for its contribution to the retention and professional development goals of the K-State 2025 strategic plan, the Office of Diversity and the K-State Black Student Union.
