Tushabe presents at African History Conference

Caroline Tushabe, assistant professor of women's studies, gave an invited presentation on Oct. 12 at the African History Conference hosted by University of North Carolina, Wilmington, which focused this year on the work of African scholar Toyin Falola.
Based on her recent article, "A Mouth Sweeter Than Salt: Epistemic Reconstruction, Memory, and Methodology in African Cultures," published in Nana Akua Amponsah's anthology Beyond the Boundaries: Toyin Falola and the Art of Genre-Bending, Tushabe's talk elaborated how Falola's memoir deeply impacts African historiography and opens avenues to decolonize pursuits of African knowledge in its emphasis on the relations between language, memory, culture and processes of knowing among the colonized.
