Agronomy professor keynote speaker at International Grasslands Congress

Chuck Rice

Chuck Rice, university distinguished professor of agronomy, was a keynote speaker at the 2013 International Grassland Congress in Sydney, Australia, Sept. 15-19. Rice spoke on the ability of grasslands to sequester carbon, and the role improved grassland management can play in modifying the global carbon cycle and indirectly influencing climate.

"Grasslands occupy about half of the world's land area. Because of this, even modest changes in carbon sequestration in global rangeland ecoysystems have a large potential to increase terrestrial carbon storage," Rice said.

The International Grassland Congress is a pre-eminent global forum held once every four years. It is attended by a thousand delegates from more than 60 countries.
