Stephanie Bannister appointed to NASPA AVP steering committee

Submitted by Colleen Rittmann

Stephanie Bannister, assistant vice president for student life, has been appointed to serve as a member of the NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education AVP steering committee. The steering committee was established in 2012 to shape professional development initiatives for those professionals aspiring to or serving in the No. 2 position for student affairs on their campus.

This two-year appointment centers on addressing the complex and ever-changing role of the assistant vice president in student affairs. NASPA through a network of constituent groups and key initiatives works to advance the student affairs profession. Through recognition, research and engagement they support student affairs leaders, scholars and practitioners.

K-State is a lead institution partnering with NASPA and the Center for First-generation Student Success to pilot the development of an office for first-generation students to focus and align support for those students that are the first in their family to attend college. K-State's office was launched in January 2018.

During the March 2019 NASPA annual conference Bannister and colleagues Rebeca Paz, Kiley Moody and RJ Youngblood, of the academic achievement center, will present the session "Creating and Maintaining an Institution's Culture Shift for First-generation Student Success."

Bannister will begin her appointment on the steering committee at the March 2019 annual conference business meeting.
