K-State Air Force ROTC announces 100 percent selection rate

Submitted by Ryan Albers

Throughout Air Force ROTC, cadets accomplish certain milestones as their time in the program progresses. The initial milestone is getting issued their first set of uniforms, and ends with graduation and commissioning as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

One highly competitive milestone, which only a select number of cadets achieve, is being awarded a rated position in the United States Air Force. Rated positions include pilot, combat systems officer, remotely piloted air craft, and air battle manager.

This year, 762 cadets from across the nation were selected for those coveted rated positions. Of those 762 cadets, Kansas State University's Air Force ROTC Detachment 270 announces three cadets have been selected for a rated position. Cadet Maxamillyan Badgett, Valley Falls, was selected as a pilot. Cadet Reed Troyer, Goddard, and Cadet Jake VanBurkleo, Newton, were both selected to become combat systems officers.

"The success of the Air Force ROTC cadets continues to be a direct reflection of the high quality academic instruction they receive in their major degree programs at Kansas State University," said Lt. Col. Shawnn Martin, commander of Air Force ROTC Detachment 270 and department head and professor of aerospace studies at K-State.

These cadets put in the hard work and dedication to earn these positions in the Air Force. Please help the K-State Air Force ROTC program in congratulating them on such a prestigious accomplishment.
