K-Staters earn recognition from the Association for Communication Excellence

K-State faculty, staff and students in the communications and agricultural education department were recognized for their outstanding communications efforts at the national meeting of the Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Life and Human Sciences June 12–17 in Memphis, Tennessee.

The following awards were presented:

• Lauri Baker, associate professor, received the Award of Excellence, Research. 

• Gloria Holcombe, editor, received the Award of Excellence, Publishing and Graphic Design.

• Cassie Wandersee, master's student, received the Outstanding Thesis Proposal. 

• Jennifer Ray, master's graduate, '15, received the Outstanding Thesis award for "An Audience Focused Approach to Framing Climate Change Communication in Agriculture."

• Kris Boone, department head, and Gloria Holcombe — $1,500 grant to survey digital asset management systems — "Applying the Guidelines: A Quantitative Content Analysis of State Agency's External Communications."

• Gloria Holcombe; Megan Macy, marketing specialist; Bob Holcombe, graphic designer; Brad Beckman, videographer; Katie Allen, communications specialist; Dan Donnert, photographer; and Ryan Barten, graphic designer in the Division of Communications and Marketing, received a Bronze award for a communications marketing campaign with a budget of $1,000 or more for Building for the Future. 

• Jeremy D'Angelo, master's student, and Jason Ellis, associate professor, received the Outstanding Research Poster award for "A Comparative Study of GM Science Diffusion Among Agricultural Undergraduate Students."

Linda Gilmore presented, "Productivity Tips for Any Personality," and Scott Stebner presented "Online Marketing Maps and the Consumer Pathway," "Be a Trendsetter: Using Google Trends to Choose the Keywords of Tomorrow," "Dig Deeper InDepth Facebook Analytics to Identify what Truly Engages Your Fans," and "Social Media Analytics Panel" at the annual meeting. 

Beckman completed his term as association president but remains on the board as past president. Donna Sheffield serves as development officer and Baker was elected research director.
