Centennial News

The Kansas State University Social Club celebrated its 100th anniversary the first week of November 2011.  In addition to a program commemorating our founding at our general membership meeting luncheon, K-State's First Lady, Noel Schulz, kindly invited Social Club members to attend a tea at the President's residence.

At the Centennial luncheon on November 1, 2011, Social Club President Sandra Brase recognized the service of 21 Past Presidents of Social Club in attendance as well as the contributions of Honorary President Noel Schulz and Past Honorary President Ruth Ann Wefald (also in attendance).  Rae Stamey (1967-68 Social Club President); Nancy Prawl, Historian (1996-97 President); and Program Co-Chairs Kathy Hasler and Carol Oukrop (President 2008-09) presented a program detailing some of the club's historical highlights and trends.  A slideshow of the presentation, edited for web viewing, is available here (pdf).

Also adding to the celebration was a Proclamation (pdf) from Kansas Governor Sam Brownback declaring November 1, 2011, as ‘Kansas State University Social Club Day' in honor of the organization.

Approximately 80 members were in attendance at the Centennial Tea at the President's residence on November 4, 2011.  Joining members to enjoy tea, tasty pastries, and tours of the residence by First Lady Noel Schulz, were Provost April Mason and Jackie Hartman, K-State Chief of Staff and Director of Community Relations.  The Social Club wishes to extend its sincere appreciation to Shelly Broccolo, Dana Hastings, and Megan Umscheid of the President's office for their assistance in making this a memorable event.
