Prerequisites
Students interested in participating in the Psychological Sciences Internship Program should:
- Have successfully completed PSYCH 110 - General Psychology
- Be a sophmore standing
- Complete PSYCH 586 - Psychology Internship Readiness
- Be a Psychological Sciences major with a minimum GPA of 3.0
Requirements
Students should also be prepared to meet the following expectations of the internship program:
- Complete a minimum of 45 hours per credit in an approved agency, under approved supervision
- Hours can include: travel, time spent on site, time spent at home or at any community engagement, and time spent completing KSU Canvas requirements
- Engage in fieldwork focused on:
- Exploring the scope of Psychological Sciences Work
- Promoting strenghts, diversity, social justice, and integrative (holistic) approaches
- Demonstrating prevention, intervention, and the skills you have learned in the classroom
- Display effective interpersonal and professional skills
- Adhering to relevant ethical codes of conduct and competencies
Internships are a responsibility that students earn by demonstrating the requisite academic, progessional, and interpersonal skills through coursework, service learning, and field experiences. Interns typically work directly with Human Service consumers, many of whom are in vulnerable situations. The students who have been placed in an internship represent Kansas State University in our community and abroad. These students hone their skills in building healthy relationships with consumers and staff and finding their own capacity and passion!
