About the institute

In Sept. 2023, Kansas State University launched it's Next-Gen K-State strategic plan. The plan called for new and innovative interdisciplinary efforts that could solve some of the most pressing issues in our state, nation and world.

The university quickly identified an opportunity to elevate the existing Kansas Water Resources Institute to a university-level institute, leveraging existing university and state agency partnerships while expanding the university resources contributing toward creating solutions for one of the state's most precious resources: Water. Out of this effort, the elevated Kansas Water Institute was born, with greater interdisciplinary participation and input than ever before.
