How IT Equipment Checkout brings learning into the classroom

IT Equipment Checkout supports learning across campus classrooms by providing faculty and students with tools that can be built directly into the learning experience.

That classroom use recently helped secure $45,000 in funding through the K-State Student Governing Association to expand the service.

During the proposal process, Dawson Wagner, instructor and Assistant Director of Wildcat Electronic Media, shared how he is building IT Equipment Checkout into his courses to give students more practical experience through class projects and activities.

In one example, art instructor Arianna Swann brought her class to the Sunderland Foundation Innovation Lab for a photography assignment. Students checked out cameras, then stayed for a mini session focused on how to use them effectively.

Behind the scenes, preparation made that experience possible. Equipment was organized, labeled and staged in advance so the class could move quickly through the checkout process and focus on the work itself.

Through Teaching Tech Talks, a new faculty-centered series focused on innovative teaching with technology, and resources like IT Equipment Checkout, K-State is making it easier for instructors to explore new ideas, access the right tools and create engaging classroom experiences.
