Audition Requirements

Keyboard study (piano and/or organ) is planned according to the individual’s needs and professional goals.

Current Kansas State University music majors who have completed their piano class requirements and wish to continue improving their playing skills may enroll in studio piano lessons as space is available.

Organ studies will be discussed and planned in dialogue with the student so that they can be successful in meeting their goals and have a wholesome musical experience.

Piano Requirements

  • Prospective music minors and non-majors should perform two (2) classical compositions that are contrasting in style and character (e.g. Chopin and Bach, or Mozart and Debussy). One of the compositions should be memorized.
  • Prospective music majors should perform three (3) classical compositions from different stylistic periods (e.g. baroque, classical, romantic, or classical, baroque, impressionistic, or classical, romantic and contemporary). All pieces should be memorized
  • Prospective graduate students are expected to present a minimum of 25 minutes of memorized repertoire from different stylistic periods
  • All prospective students: please bring with you a list of repertoire studied in the past

Organ requirements

  • Prospective music minors and non-majors should perform two contrasting compositions.
  • Prospective music majors should perform two constrasting compositions and two verses of a hymn, including an introduction.
  • Prospective graduate students should perform three contrasting compositions and two verses of a hymn, including an introduction.
  • All prospective students: please bring a list of organ repertoire that you have studied.
