Biography

Peter C. Weinert serves as an Assistant Professor of Music Education at Kansas State University. At K-State, Dr. Weinert teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music education and oversees student teaching. He serves as an advisor for graduate students and mentors various student research projects. Dr. Weinert’s own research explores all aspects of musical practice, with a primary focus on self-regulated learning. Additional emphases include required practice for elementary and secondary students and support structures for musical practice. He has presented his research at international and national conferences and has been published in Psychology of Music, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, and the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education.

Dr. Weinert earned his Doctor of Philosophy in music education (with honors) from the University of Kansas with a minor in quantitative research. He completed his Master of Music Education from the University of Kansas and earned a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Music (Trombone Performance) from Kansas State University. Previously Dr. Weinert was the Director of Music at Trine University in Angola, Indiana, where he headed the music department, as well as directed the “Sound of Thunder” Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Chamber Orchestra. Dr. Weinert is a native of Winfield, Kansas, and taught band at Pratt (Kansas) and Maize South (Wichita, Kansas).
