Biography
Maris has called Manhattan home for over 20 years, having moved from Kansas City to attend Kansas State University. After graduating in 2004, she chose to settle in the community she had grown to love. In 2016, Maris discovered Chapter Five Yoga, where she was welcomed into a supportive and encouraging yoga community. As her personal practice deepened, so did her passion for yoga and her desire to share its transformative benefits with others. Maris completed her RYT-200 teaching certification with Jessa Peterson in the fall of 2021 and has since helped cultivate an inclusive, close-knit yoga community. In 2022, she earned her Level 1 certification in Integrative Somatic Yoga, a trauma-informed approach that supports healing and helps individuals find a deeper connection with their bodies.
In addition to her work as a yoga instructor, Maris is a graduate of Kansas State’s Master’s Program in Couples and Family Therapy and integrates elements of yoga into her clinical work as a licensed marriage and family therapist at Andrews and Associates. She and her husband, Ben, are raising their two children in Manhattan and enjoy all that the community has to offer.
