Joint DVM/MPH Degree for Practicing DVMs or Current DVM Students

The primary objective is to prepare leaders for zoonoses protection programs, investigation of new and emerging infectious diseases, strengthening the public’s ability to respond to bioterrorism and biosecurity emergencies, and coordinating rapid response activities among government, agriculture industries, non-profit organizations, and academia.

Note: 12 credit hours from a College of Veterinary Medicine DVM curriculum can be applied to the MPH degree requirements, which are identical to the standalone MPH degree.

Core requirements (15 credit hours)

  • Biostatistics: MPH 701 Fundamental Methods of Biostatistics (3 hrs)
  • Environmental health sciences: MPH 802 Environmental Health (3 hrs)
  • Epidemiology: MPH 754 Introduction to Epidemiology (3 hrs)
  • Health services administration: MPH 720 Administration of Health Care Organizations (3 hrs)
  • Social and behavioral sciences: MPH 818 Social and Behavioral Bases of Public Health (3 hrs)

Electives (20 credit hours) can be chosen from an elective list.

MPH 840/culminating experience (6 credit hours)
