Bianca Enns
Philosophy and Anthropology Major, Middle Eastern Studies Minor
My favorite thing about studying languages is when I discuss how language expresses meaning, I contribute to how the learned behaviors, values, symbols, etc play out in various cultures. This passion has granted me opportunities from creating relationships with people around me to studying abroad in South Korea for a few weeks one summer. I don’t really know where it’s going to take me, but I hope it's through the new doors that open when you connect with people on transcendental levels.

Hi! Living most of my life in China has given me so much appreciation for new languages and cultures, and I love that K-State offers Chinese language opportunities to us students! I aim to utilize the Chinese I know to foster a sense of community on campus and promote cultural humility among students.

Integrative Physiology Major, Classical Studies Minor
I have always enjoyed studying history. Latin has allowed me to study classical history in a way that embraces its originality, as well as see its continuation into our language and culture today. My classes have been so much fun, and I am incredibly thankful for the friends I have made and the people I have met along the way.

I’ve always been interested in learning about foreign languages and cultures! I was a Russian linguist in the army, where I had the opportunity to serve alongside the Ukrainian military and help train them to fight their own wars. Coming to K-State and continuing with the French

I have been studying both French & Spanish since high school. Here at K-State, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad last spring in Aix-en-Provence, France. From all the new connections I’ve made with others to thinking from new perspectives, language learning has completely opened my world, and I am so grateful for it!

Japanese has always interested me because of my Father’s Navy stories, and I am glad to have experienced the nation and its people when I studied abroad last semester. Learning a language is always fun, and Japanese with its uniqueness sure is!

Spanish Major
My love for learning Spanish started with my Spanish classes in high school and my amazing teacher. My interest in the Spanish language and different Hispanic cultures grew even more when I was a foreign exchange student in Chile for a year. It’s so fun getting to know other people and cultures, which is why I chose to study Spanish at K-State!

Language, history, and culture have always been my TOP favorite topics. I’ve had the opportunity to use my bilingual skills in multiple scenarios that have led me to earn knowledge about my roots as a Hispanic, language, Hisp/Latin cultural diversity in the U.S., plus it has expanded my parameters of communication and professional development.
Julie Peterson
Spanish Major/English Major
Spanish has always been a big part of my life. When I was 5, I was placed in an immersion program. I hated learning Spanish at first; it was hard. But now I couldn't imagine my life without it. Spanish and English have made me who I am today. I wouldn't be here without it.

Ashlyn Simonson
Environmental Science major, Spanish and Nonprofit Leadership minors
I study Spanish because of my passion for learning about new languages and cultures, which was cultivated by having an amazing high school Spanish teacher. Studying Spanish has allowed me to get my Seal of Biliteracy, become a World Language Scholar, and hopefully study abroad next summer in Costa Rica! I hope to work in the National Park Service or an environmental nonprofit in the future, and speaking Spanish will be useful in both of those fields.

Jordan Scripsick
Pre-Law Communication Studies, Philosophy, Spanish Minor
Learning Spanish at K-State has been an incredible experience for me and has helped me grow more confident in communicating with others. As I pursue a law degree, my knowledge of Spanish will allow me to better understand clients’ needs, review bilingual documents, and advocate more effectively in cases involving Spanish-speaking communities. These skills will make me a more accessible, informed, and impactful attorney in the future!
