Diplôme de français professionnel

What is it? The Diplôme de français professionnel (DFP) is an internationally recognized certification of your professional French skills and will give you an edge in a globalized marketplace.

What are the benefits? The Diploma allows you to enhance your ability to work in French; stand out in the job market; contribute to your company's development in new markets; grow within your company; and facilitate your international mobility. The Diploma is valid for life and will add value to your resume and professional profile.

Who recognizes the DFP? The Diplôme de français professionnel is recognized by several ministries in Europe (France, Switzerland, Italy, Lithuania, Czech Republic, and Austria among others). In France, Diplômes de français professionnel are also recognized by the French Ministry of the Interior to validate your level of French when applying for a residence permit or naturalization in France.

When can I take the test? The test is given in person, once per year, at Kansas State University in Manhattan KS. We are a center of examination for the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris Ile-de-France (CCI Paris Ile-de-France) which offers certifications in Business and Tourism. Test overview

You will take the language proficiency exams on a computer at our Kirmser Language center, followed by an oral interview.

  • Tests are made up of two parts:
    • Understanding and processing information (between 45 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the level tested):
      • Processing written information
      • Processing oral information
      • Interact via writing
    • Interact orally (between 5 and 15 minutes, with a period of preparation):
      • Two role-playing activities.

How to register and prepare for the test?

To register, you will need to fill out this FORM (upcoming), then you will need to pay for the selected test and date. Registration is only complete once payment is completed. Attention: Payments are non-refundable

Exam cancellation polices: Any candidate who submits a request to postpone the exam date after the Registration Deadline of his exam is subject to repay the full exam fee. Transfer to the next session without penalty will be accepted in the case of sickness, provided that a doctor’s note is mailed (not via email) within three days of the original Exam Date. At K-State we also offer French for the Professions track, a micro-credential in French for the Professions and courses to prepare you for the Diploma:

  • FREN517 French for the Professions is offered during Fall semester and prepares students for the DFP Affaires or Tourisme B1/B2 diploma.
  • FREN515 Francophone culture through Food is offered during Spring semester and prepares students for the DFP Tourisme B1 diploma.
  • FREN731 (Work and Live in French) is offered during spring semester and prepares students for the DFP Affaires or Tourisme B2/C1 diploma.

Please note that the CCIP diplomas are independent of FREN515, FREN517 and FREN731 and students enrolled in the courses are not required to register for the diplomas.
