RE: Yellow Fever Vaccine

Lafene Health Center has provided Travel Consults for all K-State students, faculty, and staff traveling beyond the borders of the United States. As part of that consultation, expert travel professionals at Lafene have completed individual review of vaccination requirements for the region being visited and have previously had all required or recommended vaccines available, including Yellow Fever vaccine.

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) has notified health care agencies that the Yellow Fever Vaccine (YF-VAX) is unavailable until the manufacturer (Sanofi Pasteur) moves to a new production facility, which is not expected to have product availability till late 2019. In the interim, the Food and Drug Administration has approved another Yellow Fever Vaccine (Stamaril), produced in France, and has limited this vaccine to approximately 250 predesignated, high-volume, geographically dispersed yellow fever vaccination centers (compared to the 4,000 usual locations).

Lafene Health Center is NOT one of the predesignated vaccination centers nor is any clinical area within 90 miles of Manhattan. The only certified provider in Kansas that administers the Yellow Fever vaccine from France is located in Overland Park, Kansas, 66212, at the following site:

Passport Health

8249 W. 95th Street, Suite 105

Any traveler required to provide certification for Yellow Fever vaccination must make an appointment by phone or on-line with Passport Health to schedule the vaccination. Passport Health advised Lafene Health Center that appointments fill up quickly and to expect a wait time of 10-14 days. They also confirmed they are unable to sell or send the vaccine to any other entities.

Lafene Health Center remains committed to providing exceptional Travel Consults and wants to inform travelers of this specific restriction. If you have questions, please contact Lafene at 785-532-6544 and talk to the Travel Clinic Nurse.
