Meningococcal Immunization

The meningitis vaccination is required for all students residing in university housing by the Board of Regents of the State of Kansas.

"Effective at the start of the 2006-07 academic year, each Regents institution shall have in place policies and procedures requiring that all incoming students residing in student housing be vaccinated for meningitis. Such policies shall include appropriate waiver procedures for those who refuse to take the vaccine" (9-15-05).  The vaccine recommended is the MCV4 or quadrivalent conjugate vaccine covering strains A,C,Y, and W 135 of Neisseria Meningitidis for compliance with this regulation.

All students who will reside in university housing are required to have one Meningococcal ACWY (MCV4, NOT Meningococcal B) at age 16 years or older. If you received the Meningococcal ACWY (MCV4) prior to your 16th birthday, a booster will be required to ensure adequate protection.

A vaccine waiver may be used in place of vaccination and can be completed via the myLafene portal under Downloadable Forms.

Upload all vaccination documentation to the myLafene portal via Medical Clearances.

For more information about the Meningococcal vaccination, please see the CDC website.
