Kansas Legislature week four update

In the Kansas Legislature last week Gov. Laura Kelly presented the 2023 State of the State speech before a joint session of the Kansas House of Representatives and Kansas Senate on Jan. 24.

Also last week, David Rosowsky, vice president for research, and Kevin Gwinner, dean of the College of Business Administration, appeared before the House Commerce Committee on Jan. 26. Rosowsky presented an update on the K-State Economic Prosperity Plan. Gwinner presented an overview of the K-State College of Business. In addition, Beth Montelone, associate vice president for research, presented to the House Higher Education Budget Committee on research activities and programs. 

Next week in the Kansas Legislature, Ernie Minton, dean of the College of Agriculture and director of K-State Research and Extension, will present the annual State of K-State Agriculture, Research and Extension on Tuesday, Jan. 31. The first presentation will be at the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee at 8:30 a.m. At 3:30 p.m., Minton will present to the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

On Tuesday, Jan. 31, the Senate Education Committee will review data compiled by the Kansas Board of Regents on teacher preparation programs at the state universities and Washburn University.

The Kansas House of Representatives Water Committee will receive an informational briefing from Brian Olson, head of the K-State Western Kansas Research Center, and Matt Sanderson, sociology, anthropology and social work department. The Water Committee meets at 9 a.m. on Feb. 2.
