Attend Bob R. Snell memorial engineering lecture Jan. 25

Submitted by Trisha A. Brown

Cemal Basaran, professor and director of the Electronic Packaging Laboratory at the University at Buffalo, will be the featured speaker at the Civil Engineering Graduate Seminar Invited Lecture Series at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, in 1052 Rathbone Hall via Zoom.

The lecture is in honor of Robert R. Snell, longtime civil engineering professor from 1957–1997 and department head from 1974-1992, who died last year.

Basaran will present recent developments in unified mechanics theory that combines the universal laws of motion of Newton and the laws of thermodynamics. Recently, thermodynamic fundamental equations for very high cycle fatigue, metal corrosion and metal hydrogen embrittlement have been derived analytically and verified experimentally. He will also talk about developments discussed in his text, "Introduction to Unified Mechanics Theory with Applications," second edition, 2023, Springer.
