'Hear What I'm Seeing?' episode six released

Submitted by Jennifer Harlan

The Beach Museum of Art announces the release of a new installment of the "Hear What I'm Seeing?" video series. Episode six features Kurt Gartner, who serves as associate director of the music program and professor of percussion at Kansas State University.

Facilitated by host and museum specialist Nate McClendon, Gartner selected the installation "45 Paleolithic Handaxes from Transfigurations: Reanimating the Past" by artist David Lebrun. The immersive installation includes a custom sound score composed by Yuval Ron. Gartner chose to format his musical response as an accompaniment to the existing score. Performing on an instrument called the Malletkat, an electronic mallet percussion instrument, he uses a lithophone digital sound file as the tonal source for his improvised performance.
