Professor Kenneth Rogoff to deliver Joe Tiao Lecture on Economic Issues

Submitted by Courtney Rausch

The economics department in the College of Arts and Sciences welcomes Kenneth Rogoff, professor of economics at Harvard University and research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, for the fall edition of the Joe Tiao Lecture at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in Regnier Forum at Regnier Hall.

The title of Rogoff's talk is "Inflation, Debt and Central Bank Independence." All faculty, staff, students and community members are welcome to attend this event.

Rogoff, the Maurits C. Boas chair of international economics at Harvard University, has served as a member of the American Academy of Sciences since 2010 and has been a fellow of the Econometric Society since 1991. He has taught at Harvard University since September 1999. Rogoff served as chief economist and director of research at the International Monetary Fund from 2001 to 2003. He taught previously in the economics department at Princeton University from 1992 to 1999 and was a professor of economics at the University of California, Berkeley from 1989 to 1991. He was also an associate professor of economics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison from 1985 to 1988. He served as an economist on the board of governors of the Federal Reserve System from 1980 to 1983. He holds a doctorate in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Joe Tiao Lecture Series, initiated in 2006, enables the economics department to bring two internationally acclaimed economists to campus each year. Each Tiao Lecturer presents two lectures at K-State: a public lecture on an economics issue of current interest and a more technical seminar in the department.
