K-State prepares for 10-Year comprehensive accreditation review

Submitted by Bin Ning

Kansas State University is gearing up for its next reaffirmation of accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission, or HLC. The purposes of the accreditation process include:

  • Assuring and advancing the quality of teaching, learning and services.
  • Required to be eligible for federal student financial aid.
  • Required to provide educational programs for any military students.
  • Validates K‐State’s standing in any requests for public or private support.

The HLC site visit will occur April 11–12. A team of seven peer reviewers from other universities representing the HLC will visit the campuses in Manhattan on April 11–12 and Salina on April 11.

During their visit, the HLC team will interview faculty, staff and students through meetings in specific subject areas and open forums. K-State faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend the open forums; all will take place in the Student Union. To learn more about K-State preparations and meeting schedules regarding this accreditation visit, please visit the university’s accreditation website.

Kansas State University has been continuously accredited by the HLC since 1916. The university participates through the Open Pathway reaffirmation of the accreditation process and last underwent a comprehensive self-study and site visit during the 2011-2012 academic year.  If you have any questions about K-State accreditation with HLC, please contact Bin Ning, associate provost of institutional research and assessment and K-State's accreditation liaison officer with the HLC.
