William Wilson to present Anatomy and Physiology Seminar

Submitted by Gail Eyestone

William Wilson, research microbiologist and senior science advisor for the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility and the USDA Agricultural Research Service, will present "ARS Research on Foreign Arthropod-Borne Animal Diseases: Past and Future at NBAF" at the Department of Anatomy and Physiology Seminar at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, via Zoom.

Wilson's research focuses on using molecular evolution, biochemical and genomic approaches to understand the interactions of arboviruses with their mammalian and invertebrate hosts. This work has also led to the development of new molecular diagnostic tools and countermeasures. Current ARS research is directed toward developing Rift Valley fever early detection, characterization and countermeasures. He has also served on the FAO/IAEA Joint Animal Health Division expert advisory committee for Early Warning Diagnostic Tools and as vice-chair of the U.S. Animal Health Association's Bluetongue Committee.
