Risk and Compliance, International Risk Travel Group receive Outstanding Support for International Initiatives Award

Submitted by Grant Chapman

Outstanding Support Award Announced

The Office of International Programs recognizes Risk and Compliance and the International Risk Travel Group for the 2021 Outstanding Support for International Initiatives Award as part of International Education Week at Kansas State University, Nov. 4-18.

International Programs established the award in 2013 to recognize additional globally engaged areas within the K-State community. Given by the Office of International Programs' leadership team, this recognition is announced annually during the International Education Week celebration to recognize a K-State department, unit or organization that has gone above and beyond to support international initiatives and/or serve a global student body in extraordinary ways.

International Programs recognizes the hard work and leadership during the pandemic of the risk and compliance office led by Elliot Young, assistant vice president, university risk and compliance officer, along with the International Risk Travel Group of Young, Cheryl Doerr, associate vice president for research compliance and Marcellus Caldas, assistant provost for international faculty collaboration and educational programs and professor of geography and geospatial sciences.

"Risk and Compliance and the International Risk Travel Group worked hard to assist the university during the pandemic providing support to education abroad and stranded education abroad students, reshaping the international university international travel policy, practice, guidance, creating a new university international travel registry and website," said Grant Chapman, associate provost for international programs.

"Besides the March 2020 guidance for education abroad travel during the first of the pandemic, the Risk and Compliance and the International Risk Travel Group constantly provided guidance to the university leadership and education abroad concerning international travel and risk," Chapman said. "They recommended appropriate exceptions to the travel restriction on a case-by-case basis. They were always prompt with their responses and advice as well as truly professionally in the middle of an ever-changing pandemic."
