'Moving From Reflection to Action': Theme for Summer Academic Advising Institute

Submitted by Student Success

The annual K-State/NACADA Academic Advising Summer Institute scheduled for Wednesday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. via zoom will focus on "Moving From Reflection to Action: Intervention and Skill Building to Work Toward a More Inclusive Campus."

The institute will open with a keynote and workshop led by Chardie Baird, professor of sociology and executive director, K-State Office for the Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering, or KAWSE, focusing on collegiality and inclusivity.

This interactive workshop will work through scenarios and examine allyship strategies for improving our own responses when it is pointed out to us that we behave in ways that exclude others.

The workshop will be followed by a panel of content experts focusing on actions that support student success. Following the panel, participants will be able to choose from a variety of program sessions.

The planning committee welcomes program proposals for this summer's institute. Program sessions will run concurrently for 50 minutes each. Please submit your program proposal by noon on Monday, April 12.

Register to attend the institute by Friday, May 15. Additional information regarding institute format and sessions will be made available on the Advising Institute website.

The Academic Advising Institute is sponsored by NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising.
