Horticulture doctoral student receives Watson Fellowship

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America has named a Kansas State University doctoral student in horticulture as a 2020 Watson fellow.

For his selection, Don Wesley Dyer, Manhattan, receives a $5,000 award from the association. The Watson Fellowship is supported by The Toro Company and is awarded by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America philanthropic organization, the Environmental Institute for Golf. The fellowship recognizes students in postgraduate degree programs who have been identified as scientists that will go on to be leaders in turfgrass management.

Dyer is working to identify data-driven water conservation methodologies that save water and promote healthy turfgrass.

The Watson Fellowship, started in 1998, is named in honor of the late James R. Watson, a pioneer and visionary in turfgrass research and vice president at The Toro Company.
