Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Summit

Submitted by Mary Rankin

The Multicultural Engineering Program Student Advisory Board and the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering and its corporate partners and alumni have collaborated to host the fourth annual Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Summit, from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 27 via Zoom.

Ray Dempsey Jr., 1990 K-State graduate in industrial engineering and chief diversity officer for BP America in Washington, D.C., will deliver the keynote address, "Not just the right thing to do," subtitled "DEI: A business imperative," followed by a virtual question-and-answer time with attendees.

The two-hour event will also include a breakout session where participants will separate into groups covering one of seven topics, each hosted by a company or corporate representative.

Participants can select the topic of their choice when preregistering at engg.k-state.edu/dei-summit

The program will conclude with a panel discussion featuring Dempsey and Samuel Brinton, 2011 K-State graduate in mechanical engineering, of the Trevor Project.

"Diversity, equity and inclusion are not only important during students’ time at K-State, but are vital as they transition to future careers," said LaVerne Bitsie-Baldwin, director of the Multicultural Engineering Program.
"This summit will feature our distinguished alumni and offer students the opportunity to network with industry representatives from among our top recruiters."
