Register to vote and create a voting plan today

Last week, we celebrated National Voter Registration Day and encouraged all Wildcats to register to vote and prepare for the Nov. 3 election. As of today, Sept. 28, election day is only 36 days away. While that may seem like a long time from now, there is a lot of work that we need to do to ensure that we all are #VoteReady.
One deadline that is rapidly approaching is the last day to register to vote. In Kansas, you must be registered to vote by Oct. 13, and you are required to update your voter registration information every time you move, change party affiliation, or change your name. Even if you have not moved or changed your name or party, one good voting practice is to check your registration before this deadline has passed.
To register to vote for the first time, update your information, or check your registration, visit ksvotes.org. For out-of-state students wishing to vote back home, visit vote.org to get registered. After registering, the next step to voting this November is to create a voting plan. Put simply, making a voting plan means deciding how, where and when you will vote. Some example questions that you can ask yourself include:
- Are you voting by mail or in person?
- Where and when will you vote? Do you need a ride to the polls?
- If voting by mail, have you requested your ballot yet?
- Do you have the necessary ID to vote?
Due to the uncertainty that COVID-19 has brought this fall, the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge team encourages everyone to create a voting plan, consider voting early, and bring your friends along with you in this process. Early voting in Kansas begins on Oct. 14, allowing us the opportunity to vote early by mail or in person.
