K-State Choirs hosts Virtual Lecture Series for students

Submitted by Blakely Bunning

As COVID-19 has changed the ways we interact and learn, K-State Choirs is using it as an opportunity to learn from world-renowned musicians in its inaugural Virtual Lecture Series.

Students have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from 10 different lecturers with expertise in teaching, conducting, performing and composing music of all different styles and genres. The lectures take place at 12:30 p.m. during the Concert Choir and Collegiate Chorale time slots. The dates of the lectures vary with the availability of the artists.

Not only are K-State students invited to attend, but high schools from around the state and region have been invited to watch the series and explore the many facets of the music industry. For information on how to watch and who is presenting, visit k-state.edu/mtd/music/choirs or email choirs@k-state.edu

Since its first performance in 1865, the K-State Choral Music Division has provided Manhattan residents with a wide variety of choral music and quality entertainment. The Choral Music Division is led by Joshua Oppenheim and Julie Yu, co-directors of choral studies. Seven ensembles that range in size and style are part of K-State Choirs. Since 1966, the choirs have been selected 35 times to perform at state, regional and national conferences of the Music Educators National Conference, American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, and the National Collegiate Choral Organization.

The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is a part of the College of Arts and Sciences. Visit the website to learn more about music, theatre and dance at K-State.
