College for a Day partnerships garner success

Submitted by Zelia Wiley

The colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine hosted 34 students from the Washington High School, Animal Sciences Academy in Kansas City, for the fall 2019 College for a Day event on Oct. 23. The students were led by their teacher, Olivia Moore, a 2009 MAPS and College of Agriculture graduate.

This year's event was the first college collaboration with support of Project IMPACT in the Department of Diversity and Multicultural Student Affairs.

The students toured both the College of Agriculture animal sciences and industry units and College of Veterinary Medicine.

Thanks to Callie Rost, assistant dean for admissions, and her team in the College of Veterinary Medicine for hosting a tour, and continued thanks to Ron Pope, instructor in animal sciences and industry, for always supporting the tours.

Various College of Agriculture administrators, faculty and staff, K-State MANRRS members, and the college's Diversity Programs Office staff helped to ensure the students had a fun day full of information and experiences on campus.

Thanks to the Department of Diversity and Multicultural Student Affairs for its support. Most importantly, thanks to our colleges for sharing your time to work together for the benefit of our future students who will change the face of agriculture.
