International livestock conference begins today at K-State Student Union

More than 300 worldwide experts and leaders in livestock production have come to Manhattan to teach, learn and discuss a sustainable future.

The Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock, GASL, begins its annual conference today at the K-State Student Union. Numerous events are free and open to the public.

This year's conference, Innovation for Sustainable Livestock Systems runs through Friday.

As part of the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization, GASL annually convenes Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Meetings to initiate open discussions from varied perspectives.

Confirmed participants include representatives from industry, civil society organizations, several governments and intergovernmental organizations, and numerous agricultural research universities around the world.

K-State's College of Agriculture is hosting the conference and is providing several experts during today's plenary sessions as well as panel discussions tomorrow at Forum Hall.

Monday Plenary Sessions

  • 8:30 a.m. – Food and Nutrition Security
  • 10:30 a.m. – Livelihoods and Economic Growth
  • 1:30 p.m. – Animal Health and Welfare
  • 3:30 p.m. – Climate and Natural Resource Use

Tuesday Panel Sessions

  • 10:30 a.m. – Role of Innovation in Sustainable Livestock Systems
  • 1:30 p.m. – Role of Trade in Sustainable Livestock Systems

The public is welcome to attend any of the sessions without registering.
