Integration of diversity and inclusion elements in classes for KSUnite

Submitted by Chuck Taber

Dear Campus Community,

As previously announced, we will have our third annual KSUnite on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The schedule for the day has not yet been determined, but we have announced that classes will be canceled from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. I would like to include an academic component in the day's events, so I encourage faculty who will be teaching on that day to think about planning a class that will integrate concepts related to diversity and inclusion into your lesson plans.

To assist you in preparing such a class, the Teaching and Learning Center has developed, with the assistance of a talented group of faculty and staff, a website of references to guide faculty in the integration of elements of diversity and inclusion into their class, no matter the topic or discipline. The website displays a variety of books, articles and online resources that highlight a broad array of scholars who have published works in this area.

We hope that you find this reference guide helpful as you prepare for class, whether it is for KSUnite day, or any other day in which you seek to plan lessons around topics of diversity and inclusion. Please feel free to contact the Teaching and Learning Center for more information, or with any questions you might have.

Thank you for your contributions to making Nov. 6 a day that celebrates and honors K-State's commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Sincerely,

Chuck Taber
Provost and executive vice president
