K-State Confucius Institute to sponsor second student China trip

Submitted by Shijun Yan

The K-State Confucius Institute will sponsor the second K-State student group on a summer trip to China from July 6-19. The trip will be a great way for students to learn about China's history, culture and see the country and the Chinese way of life firsthand. Students only need to pay the round-trip airfare between the U.S and China and their insurance fee during the trip. All travel expenses in China, including room and board, are covered by the Confucius Institute.

Students will visit the Chinese capital city of Beijing, Changchun in northeast China, and Changbai Mountain — the beautiful border mountain with North Korea. While in Changchun, K-State students will join their counterparts from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, Kiev National University, Ukraine, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, University of Hanyan, South Korea, in a number of social and educational activities prepared by Jilin University, which is K-State's partner university for the Confucius Institute.

The Confucius Institute sponsored the first China trip last year. Twenty K-State students visited China for two weeks and all of them are very excited for their memorable experiences.

"Perhaps one of my favorite parts of China was the dancing in Beijing," said Simrun Hundal, senior in geography, one of the last trip's participants. "Our hotel was across the street from a mall and every night in the public space outside of the mall, a group of well over 100 people would gather and dance! Music would play, and the people would line up in rows and repeat a short dance in unison as a form of exercise. Our group would go out to join the lines of dancers and do our best to dance along — it was a really fun experience."

This is a first-come, first-served basis trip. View the detailed trip itinerary
