National Survey of Student Engagement sent to freshmen, seniors helps K-State

Submitted by Frederick Burrack

NSSE

The email freshmen and seniors received from the National Survey of Student Engagement, or NSSE, provides valuable insight to the university and is not a phishing scam. The survey is used by Kansas State University to gain feedback from students about their experiences and engagement. It is a valuable means through which the institution gains valuable insight into student engagement, attitudes and challenges. The email is accompanied with a letter from the president and provost.

We want our students to have the best educational experience possible, and the National Survey of Student Engagement helps by providing vital information about activities in and out of the classroom. The survey only takes about 10 minutes to complete. Participation is critical, so we hope students will complete NSSE — an opportunity only available to first-year and senior students once every three years.

In appreciation for participating, students who complete the survey by March 15 will be automatically entered in a random drawing to win 1 Beats Wireless Headphones, one annual parking pass with garage access, one of 10 lunches with President Myers and Provost Taber, or one of three sets of tickets to select McCain Performance Series shows. Last time the survey was administered about 2,500 students responded, so we hope to surpass this number of responses this year.

Unfortunately, the email appears very much like a phishing scam due to an unforeseen change in the survey email. Our deepest apology for any confusion and we are working with those that originate this survey to address this issue.
