Stephanie Bannister and Rebeca Paz present at regional diversity and multiculturalism conference

Submitted by Rebeca Paz

Kansas State University's Office of First-generation Students had a strong presence at this year's Michael Tilford Conference on Diversity and Multiculturalism. The conference was hosted Oct. 22-23 at Fort Hays State University.

Stephanie Bannister, assistant vice president for student life, and Rebeca Paz, assistant director of the office, presented, "Creating an Office of First-generation Students" at the conference.

Bannister and Paz detailed the strategies implemented to date, highlighted partnerships and collaborations in creating the office, shared current student demographics, and presented a strategic plan for growth.

The session was one of several workshops from institutions in higher education across the state of Kansas.

K-State launched the inaugural Office of First-generation Students with the goal to increase the recruitment, retention and graduation rates of first-generation students.
