New Faculty Institute luncheon on Sept. 12

Submitted by Tamara Bauer

The New Faculty Institute will host a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the Flint Hills Room at the K-State Student Union.

The New Faculty Institute is a universitywide program sponsored by the Teaching and Learning Center to introduce newly hired faculty to K-State's missions of teaching, research and service, and to facilitate their success at the university. The institute facilitates the transition of newly hired faculty members into the K-State academic environment by providing information and tools that can help them become successful as educators and researchers at K-State. Each month, the institute offers social luncheons filled with information, networking and food.

The program for Sept. 12 is "What do K-State students need from faculty?" This session will be an opportunity to engage around the following questions — and more:

  • What is the best way to keep students engaged in the classroom?
  • How do we get buy-in from students in class?
  • How do we increase participation and interaction in the classroom?
  • How do we help students become passionate about our subject?
  • How do students like to use technology in the classroom?
  • How do we get past the "what's on the test" mentality?
  • What is your current reality as a student? What are the struggles/challenges you face as students today?
  • How do you become a teacher that students love?

Please RSVP by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11.

For more information, contact Tamara Bauer, New Faculty Institute coordinator, at tamara@k-state.edu, or Jana Fallin, the Teaching and Learning Center director, at teachingandlearning@k-state.edu.

We look forward to seeing you!
