Global Campus to host webinar on building a culturally inclusive online classroom

Submitted by Grant Guggisberg

In an effort to foster diversity and cultural differences in the online classroom, Global Campus is making a webinar available to all faculty and staff at K-State designed to help with this difficult task.

"Three Secrets to Building Diverse and Inclusive Online Learning Environments" webinar will give participants practical steps to take in an online class environment to help build an inclusive space for learning. The webinar is at 1 p.m. May 10 and can be viewed in Global Campus Room 231 or via Zoom.

Recognizing that cultural differences often have a direct impact on the way students learn, faculty adapt teaching models to ensure the classroom is an inclusive space for all learners. While this can be difficult even in a traditional classroom, fostering this sense of community is even more difficult in an online course environment.

Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Increase student participation and completion rates in the online classroom
  • Create social presence with a culturally responsive lens
  • Encourage students to actively consider differing perspectives
  • Create inclusive online spaces for all students

Through the strategies discussed, attendees come away better prepared to increase student participation and engagement in a diverse online classroom. To RSVP for this event, contact Global Campus quality coordinator Laura Widenor at lwidenor@k-state.edu.
