Fall 2017 UHP Student Achievements 

Celeste Bartels senior in marketing and management with a minor in German, was recently awarded a $1,000 Research Award from the Kansas State University Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry. Bartels has been working on a research study with K-State professor of marketing Swinder Janda on the impact the various types of study abroad programs have on student outcomes such as world mindedness and cultural intelligence. Janda began mentoring Bartels in the University Honors Program after Bartels studied abroad at the CIMBA program in Italy, which features Janda's International Marketing course. College of Business student receives Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry Research Award

Garrett Wilkinson senior in nutritional sciences and pre-medicine, has received a Marshall Scholarship for graduate study in the United Kingdom. Marshall scholarships are awarded to about 40 American students each year by the British government as an expression of gratitude and as a means of continually strengthening the ties between the U.K. and U.S. Kansas State University student receives national Marshall Scholarship

Three UHP students have been selected to be vocalists for K-State's fall commencement ceremonies. Cooper McGuire, junior in applied music, will be the vocalist at commencement for the Graduate School at 1 p.m. Dec. 8 in Bramlage Coliseum. Mark Ronning, bachelor's candidate in electrical engineering, will be the vocalist at commencement for the College of Engineering at 4 p.m. Dec. 9 in Bramlage Coliseum. Sam Wilson, senior in applied music, will be the vocalist at commencement for the College of Human Ecology at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 9 in Bramlage Coliseum. Students selected to serve as commencement speakers, vocalists and musicians

Two UHP students are in the running for prestigious national scholarships. Vaithish Velazhahan, senior in microbiology, biochemistry and pre-medicine, and Garrett Wilkinson, senior in nutritional sciences, microbiology, and pre-medicine, have been named finalists for the Marshall scholarship. Wilkinson also is a finalist for the Rhodes scholarship. Two Kansas State University students named finalists for prestigious national scholarships

Michelle Anderson sophomore in finance and accounting, has been chosen to represent Kansas State University as a 2018 Student Ambassador. Michelle was recognized on October 21 during halftime of K-State's Homecoming football game against the University of Oklahoma. Two students chosen as 2018 K-State Student Ambassadors

Karen Duerksen junior in Agronomy, placed 8th individually at the Region 5 Soil Judging contest hosted by South Dakota State University in Redfield, South Dakota, on Sept. 29. The K-State team placed 2nd and is now qualified for the National Soil Judging competition this spring in Tennessee. K-State soil judging team takes regional honors, qualifies for nationals

 

Spring 2017 UHP Student Achievements

Gabrielle Phillips in Mechanical Engineering received a DAAD Research Internship in Science and Engineering (RISE) award and will travel to Germany this summer to research antibiotic production. Kansas State University student to research plants producing new antibiotics in Germany

Vaithish Velazhahan, junior in Pre-Med Microbiology and Biochemistry, has been awarded a Barry M. Goldwater scholarship; and Kathlyn Gomendoza, junior in Biology, has been recognized as Honorable Mention. Goldwater Foundation recognizes four Kansas State University students, undergraduate researchers

Jael Whitney, junior in Marketing, has been awarded a Girls Who Illustrate Awesomeness scholarship from Next Day Animations. Marketing student receives Girls Who Illustrate Awesomeness scholarship from Next Day Animations

Nathan Dowell, sophomore in History, is Fulbright Summer Institute award recipient to the University of Durham. Fulbright experience: Student from Liberal to spend part of summer digging into England's history

Amber Berg, sophomore in Regional Community Planning, and Jael Whitney, junior in Marketing, have been recognized as Udall Scholar and Udall Honorable Mention respectively by the Udall Foundation. Udall Foundation recognizes two Kansas State University students

Stephen Kucera, senior in Music Performance and Accounting, recognized as a talented piano player, leaves behind a legacy during his tenure as a student. About to graduate, Stephen Kucera leaves legacy of student service

Matthew Rogers, senior in Anthropology, Carlie Stenzel, junior in Anthropology with a minor in Community Planning, and Tuesday Frasier, senior in Anthropology with a minor in Statistics, received awards form the Anthropology program. Anthropology program recognizes outstanding undergraduates

Tiffani Lawrence, senior in Secondary Education: English and Theatre: Dance option showcased her final project "Ideation." Dance major to present 'Ideation,' a choreography showcase

Emma Brase, freshman in Psychology, and Caitlyn Webb, senior in Accounting and Economics, have been announced as winners of the Kirmser Undergraduate Research Awards. Kirmser Awards recognize exceptional undergraduate scholarship

Four UHP students are among those honored with 2017 Most Promising Student awards from the Division of Biology: Christopher ClarksonJazmine SnowTrevor Elwell-Cuddy, and Kathlyn Gomendoza. Division of Biology undergraduates recognized for outstanding achievements

Two UHP students are among the winners of the College of Human Ecology's Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry Forum: Emily Andrews, senior, best creative inquiry presentation for her project "Rooted" and Lara Hoss, junior, best family studies and human services research poster, "Parental factors as predictors of dating violence among adolescent parents." College of Human Ecology undergraduate and graduate student research and creative inquiry forum winners

Kathlyn Gomendoza, senior in Biology, is the recipient of the ASM Undergraduate Research Fellowship, she will continue her studies using national fellowship to study baculovirus. Going viral: Biology student to use national fellowship to study baculovirus

Sierra Lekie, senior in economics and political science, awarded a Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship to study at American University's School of International Service in Washington, D.C. Kansas State University's Phi Kappa Phi Fellow to study foreign affairs in nation's capital and 2017 Thomas R.
