K-State’s College of Arts and Sciences is comprised of 22 departments with majors spanning the arts and humanities, natural and quantitative sciences and social and behavioral sciences. With more than 1,000 faculty and staff serving more than 5,700 undergraduate and graduate students each year, the college strives to prepare students for a lifetime of success and to address global challenges through interdisciplinary programming, research and creative activity and engagement.

The IT director for the College of Arts and Sciences will work collaboratively with college administration and faculty and with central IT to shape and staff an IT structure for the college that fully supports teaching, research and service across all departments served. From deskside IT support and hardware, network and software administration to ensuring cybersecurity, the IT director will deliver IT strategy and excellence to ensure a cohesive approach that serves the disparate IT needs of the college.

K-State’s College of Education is the flagship teacher-preparation program in Kansas with a vision to prepare educators to be knowledgeable, ethical caring decision-makers for a diverse and changing world. Three hundred faculty and staff work to deliver on this mission to more than 2,000 students annually.

Technology has historically been important to the college in delivery of curriculum and education. From early in-person educational programming delivery across the state to program delivery via Kansas TeleNet in the 1970s, the college has used technology to reach well beyond the K-State campus. Today, online courses and degrees are offered across the college for nearly all College of Education programs.

The college strives to lead technology innovation in the delivery of curriculum and education and is looking for an IT leader who reaches beyond the status quo and is able to research, recommend and deliver technology solutions that are on the cutting edge and significantly advance education delivery. Technology strategy is driven by the college’s technology committee, a group of faculty members with a strong IT knowledge base, operating within the college’s shared governance structure. The IT director will be expected to work collaboratively with the technology committee to determine and deliver IT strategy and excellence across the college.

The College of Education operates in a Mac environment and uses Jamf for device management. A strong understanding of these environments is critical. A knowledge of database systems and, specifically, Filemaker Pro would be helpful. The director must be able to work collaboratively across the college and with associated units such as NACADA and OEIE to provide IT leadership and serve as the bridge between the college and central IT.

K-State’s Carl R. Ice College of Engineering strives to create a safer, more sustainable and more secure society through interdisciplinary approaches in order to solve challenges. With more than 500 faculty and staff serving more than 3,100 graduate and undergraduate students, the college drives research and innovation-related breakthroughs that change the world by investing in, promoting and advancing research in health, sustainable infrastructure, computing technologies and secure platforms.

The College of Engineering IT director supports these endeavors through leadership of engineering computing services for computing labs, classrooms and presentation systems, deskside support and managed computing and facility access activities. The director and team manage servers, specialized software and licensing, as well as other engineering computing tools for the college. These services support eight academic departments, more than 100 research and computing laboratories and multiple interdisciplinary research centers and institutes, both on campus and offsite.

The successful candidate will be a strong contributor and partner in the work and research of the college with both internal and external partners, maintaining knowledge and working alongside units developing and testing new IT technologies. The IT director also will work closely with faculty and researchers to determine secure storage for digital research data and to provids guidance for the secure exchange, control and sharing of data.

The mission of K-State’s College of Health and Human Sciences is to promote the well-being of individuals, families and communities through research, education and outreach. Home to 17 undergraduate and 19 graduate degree programs, the college provides more than 2,300 undergraduate and 400 graduate students annually with the education and skills needed to make an impact in the world around them. The college is committed to promoting research, scholarship, creative activity, and discovery with a strategic and cohesive focus on health and human behavior.

The college has multiple centers and outreach programs and includes faculty and staff on the Manhattan campus, the Olathe campus and working remotely. We provide many different opportunities for students to apply classroom learning and have different venues for working directly with clients and colleagues in ways that improve people’s lives.

With several healthcare-accredited programs in the college, familiarity with collecting, handling and storing HIPPA data is critical. The college has a variety of programs, 13 of them accredited; therefore, the ability to support specialized technology needs across programs, to comply with human- and animal-related research requirements and to follow research data security policies is important. The director will be relied upon to understand various interfaces and systems used by programs with ties to the college and be able to interpret new technology needs and translate them into functionality that aligns with university policy and IT governance standards.

The IT director will support faculty and staff using both PC and Mac devices and must have a solid grasp of mobile technology, how it is used in clinics and how to structure interfaces to ensure the security of data.

The Division of Academic Success and Student Affairs (DASSA) provides an impactful and holistic K-State experience by closely aligning student life resources with academic support programs and services. Our units collaborate within the division and across the university to better serve students by promoting success inside and outside the classroom. We provide career-readiness skills so that students can thrive throughout their life pursuits.

We focus on our students' academic and career engagement, their sense of belonging and inclusion, their holistic well-being and how they experience and build community.

DASSA is a vital partner with faculty, staff, administration, alumni and community members as K-State works towards its goal to be the premier next-generation land-grant university.

The successful IT Director for DASSA will have experience and demonstrated success managing multiple on prem and cloud-based systems and programs serving multiple functions within academic success and student affairs. Systems that are used support academic advising, a residential life population of more than 3,000 students, an ID center, a student health center, room reservations, recreational services, the career center and student employment, student organizations and student conduct platforms. Additionally, the IT director will identify and implement new systems to continually improve services for students.

IT priorities on the horizon for DASSA include selection of platforms to help students create individualized academic plans and selection of a leading indicator system to assist in identifying student situations for intervention.

K-State Libraries encompasses Hale Library and four branch libraries. The libraries provide academic services and spaces for students and the K-State community to gather. 

As part of our land-grant mission, all libraries are open to the public, and we welcome visitors to explore our beautiful buildings and collections. 

The successful IT director for K-State Libraries will have extensive knowledge and experience in library operations and systems, including integrated resources from hundreds of vendors.  The IT director will support strategic initiatives and must demonstrate success as a contributor and project manager and have the ability to collaborate with all library teams to develop innovative solutions. Current key initiatives include, but are not limited to, AI literacy and scholarly communications and research data management. 

The IT director is a leader of people and must have an understanding of higher education and the interpersonal skills to lead and collaborate with others within the library and across the university. Maintaining all library systems for internal users and patrons is a key component of the IT director’s role. Customer service and collaboration are key skills necessary to be successful in this role.

The Office of the President provides leadership to the entire university to advance efforts that support K-State’s mission to foster excellence in teaching, research and service in developing highly skilled and educated citizenry necessary to advance the well-being of Kansas, the nation and the global community. Administration and Finance works collaboratively with faculty, staff and students to support these efforts and serves the university community across all operations, with direct impact on physical, digital, financial, safety and human resources. The successful IT director for the Office of the President and Administration and Finance units will have a strong commitment to working collaboratively with focus on common purpose and exceptional service. The IT director will manage multiple systems, programs and strategic initiatives across a wide variety of units. The IT director must demonstrate an ability to identify and communicate commonalities and interdependencies across systems to drive efficiencies and improve services.

Current key initiatives include implementation of university-wide systems to improve time and leave, budget planning and enrollment forecasting, physical security and badge access, and travel and expense management.

IT priorities on the horizon include replacement of the university’s enterprise resource planning systems for student, human resources and finance, implementation of a performance and learning management system and implementation of a capital planning system. Additional focus will be on other system implementations to modernize processes and maximize efficiency for the university community.

The Office of the Provost provides administrative leadership for the university’s academic enterprise, driving a culture of academic innovation and excellence as a next-generation land-grant university. As the administrative arm of the Provost, the university’s chief academic officer, the Office supports the Provost in providing strategic oversight for academic planning, resource allocation and innovation in all academic programs – undergraduate and graduate, hybrid and online – while ensuring excellence and relevance in the design of curriculum and the academic portfolio.

Key areas of focus for the university offices within the Office of the Provost are promoting excellence and innovation in teaching and learning, championing high academic standards for K-State faculty consistent with a R1 research university, growing enrollment across traditional and non-traditional learner populations, and enhancing the student experience to meet the needs of today’s learners. The IT Director for the Provost’s Office will be an experienced leader with deep expertise in both existing and emerging technologies and trends, focusing on enhancing the student experience, driving enrollment growth, and fostering academic innovation. The director ensures that the latest technological advancements are effectively integrated into the university’s educational offerings and serves as a key liaison within the university’s technology and accessibility ecosystem, particularly in relation to scalable teaching and learning technologies. This role also contributes to the university’s broader strategic goals, particularly in the areas of technology-related policy, data security, and process optimization.

In addition to strategic leadership, the IT Director will provide hands-on operational leadership in managing technical infrastructure, data management, and systems that support critical academic and enrollment processes. The director ensures IT initiatives are aligned with institutional objectives and that there is seamless, customer-centered handling of issues, balancing the need for high-touch, personalized service with the strategic application of technological solutions to achieve the university’s goals.

A working knowledge of emerging AI opportunities across not only the teaching and learning environment, but also the ways in which AI can impact on academic and provost unit office operations would be valuable.

Kansas State University’s Olathe campus was launched in April 2011 and is the newest campus in the university’s system. The campus is in Johnson County and serves the Greater Kansas City metro area. The campus is a strategic partner of the Johnson County Education and Research Triangle, which was created in 2008 when residents invested in the county's future by voting for a one-eighth cent sales tax. The proceeds from this tax fund higher education through a unique partnership among Johnson County, the University of Kansas, and Kansas State University.   

Undergraduate and graduate academic programs offered at the campus support Greater Kansas City's robust animal health, food production and safety, biotechnology, hospitality and personal finance industries and sectors.  K-State Olathe also works closely with K-12 schools, community colleges and industry in Johnson County and the KC metro to establish an education pipeline that spans from high school to in-demand undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs. New academic programs in engineering technology and advanced manufacturing are slated to come online in 2025. 

In addition, the campus maintains a robust applied and translational research agenda focused on animal health, food safety and security, sensory and consumer science, the urban foods system initiative and 1Data. The campus also offers non-credit and professional development programming in animal health regulatory affairs and essential leadership skills and serves as a world-class venue for hosting industry and community events, workshops and conferences.  

K-State Olathe seeks an IT Director with experience and expertise in technology operations serving both internal users and community partners.  The campus hosts many events for community partners and visitors, and this requires great attention to customer service, collaboration, and integration.  The technology operations at K-State Olathe include all classroom, desktop and research support, building access and control systems and facility management.  The successful candidate will have experience with system integration and project management to include new building planning and expansion of systems to meet campus and constituent needs.  New technology advancements in manufacturing, bulk solids and research integration are key priorities for Olathe campus and to support 1Data research activities, knowledge of and experience in a Linux environment is preferred.

While the IT Director will be integrated with the K-State central IT division, the Director will work from the Olathe campus and must demonstrate the ability to lead and manage operations at a distance from central IT operations in Manhattan.
