eID password FAQs

Q: How do I change my password?

A: You can change your password through your eProfile or by contacting the IT Help Desk (over the phone or in-person). Please note that after changing your password, you must immediately update your password in all your computers, devices, and applications or risk getting locked out of KSU Wireless and email. Remember, you can only change your password once a day.

Q: How often must I change my password?

A: You are not required to change your eID password. If you are required to change your password more often because of the job you perform, you will need to follow those job-specific password guidelines. Remember, you can only change your password once a day.

Q: When does my password expire?

A: Your eID password does not expire. You do not need to change your password unless the password becomes compromised.

Q: What if I forgot my password?

A: If you previously set an alternate email address, provided a mobile phone number, or security question and answer in the Password reset options section of your eProfile, you can reset your eID password online.

There are two options to reset your eID password via email or text message.

Email

  1. Go to the eProfile password reset website and enter your eID.
  2. Select Get a password reset link at my alternate email address.
  3. An email will be sent to your alternate email address.
  4. From that email, click the password reset link and then answer your password-reset question.

Text Message

  1. Go to the eProfile password reset website and enter your eID.
  2. Select Text message verification code to my phone.
  3. Answer your security question.
  4. Enter the verification code that was sent to your phone.
  5. Reset your eID password.

You can also change your password over the phone or in-person at the IT Help Desk, Hale Library, second floor on the Manhattan campus, or at the ID Center, 112 College Center on the Salina campus. You will need to provide proof of your identity.

Q: What are the password standards?

A: Your password must meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 15 to a maximum of 100 characters in length
  • Must be significantly different from previous passwords
  • May contain spaces but cannot start or end with a space
  • Cannot be a single dictionary word
  • Cannot be repetitive or sequential (e.g. 'aaaaaaaaa,''12345abcd')
  • Cannot be your name, username, K-State term, or name of a service
  • Cannot use a previously compromised password

Q: What shouldn't be used for passwords?

A: You should not use any of the following:

  • K-State terms. Virtually everything related to K-State is already in the "DO NOT USE" list, including building names and codes, K-State acronyms, and all kinds of sports jargon. Hackers "mine" K-State webpages for local terms to use in guessing passwords.
  • First or last names of any K-Staters.
  • Personal numbers or codes (age, phone number, postal address, date of birth, driver's license, SSN).
    Those numbers are more public than you think.
  • Any known information about you, such as parts of your eID, name, address, pet names, friends' names, family names, hobbies, or favorites.
  • Obvious number sequences such as "123456" or "654321". Also, obvious number sequences added to your name or eID such as "willie1234".

Q: Having trouble coming up with 15 characters?

A: Consider a sentence or phrase that is meaningful to you such as, "Maryhadalittlelamb?" or "I love cheese pizza".
