About the Division of Information Technology (IT)

Kansas State University's Division of Information Technology is committed to providing excellent IT services to the K-State community in support of the teaching, learning, research, and service missions. We offer a wide range of information, technology, and communications services. 

The Division of Information Technology reports to the University President with dotted line responsibility to the Provost.

Office of the CIO

The Office of the CIO coordinates and manages central IT business services.

Enterprise Technologies

This unit leads strategies to ensure technologies are used efficiently and cost-effectively while leveraging stakeholders' feedback to guide improvements and adjustments. Ensures technology decisions align with the University goals; system infrastructure is functional and efficient, builds data protection processes, and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs). Manages day-to-day technology and client service operations to improve infrastructure costs, performance, and user satisfaction. Services include:

  • IT Help Desk
  • Equipment checkout
  • Desktop support
  • Server technologies
  • Networking and telecommunications
  • University telephone operations

Business Intelligence, Analytics and Enterprise Applications 

Leads the K-State use of data assets, as well as the entire data ecosystem; creates value through using data to inform executive decision making, envisioning data-enabled strategies, and enabling all forms of business outcomes through analytics, data and analytics governance, and enterprise information policy. Leads the enterprise services operation. Responsible for the life cycle planning of business applications through the phases of strategize, architect, select, deploy, operate, evolve, and retire. Services include:

  • Enterprise data architects
  • Application services

Emerging Technologies

Coordinates with academic and administrative units on planning and implementing emerging technologies. Works in partnership with the Hale Library Sunderland Foundation Innovation Lab for technology, support, and day to day operations of innovative technology tools and services for students and instructors. Services include:

  • Classroom technology support
  • Academic media production services
  • Media Center services

Strategy, Planning, and Enterprise Architecture

Proactively leads the enterprise in the constantly changing interaction of education, research, outreach, and extension and its use of information technology. This group identifies and analyzes the execution of change toward the desired business vision and outcomes. Services include: 

  • Enterprise architecture (business and technical)
  • Strategy, governance, and performance management
  • Project management
  • User experience and testing
  • IT Communications
  • Training

Information Security

Establishes and maintains the university vision, strategy, and program to ensure information technologies and assets are adequately protected and monitored. Lead the university through the risk management life cycle, ensuring informed, thoughtful decision making with the appropriate level of risk tolerance.
