Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy

Workshops for Facilitators

The institute offers facilitation workshops tailored to the specific goals of community groups.  These combine the planning phases or convening preparation in advance of public conversation with in-the-moment facilitation strategies.  We also organize facilitator "workouts" to help practitioners review and practice specific skills and models of public conversation.  Recent samples include:

  • Conversations Bootcamp: Youth training in deliberation as a form of public conversation, and skills facilitators employ to help other participants (contact Aliah Mestrovich Seay)
  • Appreciative Inquiry for extension specialists organizing community health conversations (contact Donna Schenck-Hamlin)
  • Community Organizing Workshops with Manhattan Alliance for Peace and Justice (contact Jessica Kerr)
