Only payments received in a calendar year for qualified tuition and related expenses are reflected in Box 1. The payments you actually made to K-State may have included payments for housing, parking and other optional campus fees that are not considered qualified tuition and related expenses. Additionally, charges you paid for in a calendar year may have been billed in the prior calendar year.
The IRS requires the university to report qualified tuition and related expenses annually. In order for the university to correctly prepare Form 1098-T, federal law requires you to provide us your taxpayer identification number. This is your Social Security Number unless you are unable to obtain a Social Security Number. Failure to furnish a correct Social Security Number may result in a penalty from the Internal Revenue Service.
