2019 Discretionary Day

Please remind your employees of this important deadline for using the 2019 discretionary day. This year employees have until December 28, 2019 to use their 2019 discretionary day. The discretionary day for 2020 will be available starting December 29, 2019.

The discretionary day must be used by the last day of the final pay period each calendar year. This year, the final pay period is December 15, 2019 to December 28, 2019 making December 27 (for those who work a Monday through Friday schedule) or December 28 (for those who have Saturday in their schedule) the last day to use the discretionary day.

Employees can determine if they have an available discretionary day by logging into Employee Self Service/HRIS. If a line for "D-Day" appears, the employee has an available discretionary day. The "D-Day" will not display an hour's balance and once used, the line will disappear within self-service. Please contact Kristi Fronce (fronce@ksu.edu) or Frieda Beat (frieda@ksu.edu) with questions about the discretionary day.

SEHP Change of Deductions

Per the State Employee Health Plan (SEHP), effective October 1, 2019, if a member separates employment on the 1st day of the month, SEHP benefits also end on the 1st. If an employee separates on the 2nd of the month or later, SEHP benefits will end on the last day of the month. However, employees are still responsible for paying for premiums for the entire month. As a part of this change, SEHP will be changing the deductions for vision, voluntary supplemental insurance and Long-Term Care insurance. Beginning with the October 4, 2019 paycheck, premiums will be taken from the first two checks of each month. Questions may be directed to benefits@ksu.edu or KDHE.Benefits@ks.gov.
