Graduate Assistant
The Career Center facilitates the career readiness of all students in the K-State community. We help students explore their interests and values, develop their potential through internships and involvement, teach them to tell their story through resumes and interviews, and connect them with employers and opportunities. We offer individual advising, assessments, workshops, career classes, and events that help students explore majors and careers, develop job search strategies, and make direct links to employers interested in hiring K-State students.
Job Summary
The Career Center Graduate Assistants help facilitate the career readiness of all students in the K-State community. The Graduate Assistants will help students develop their potential and teach students to tell their story through resumes and interviews, as well as connect them with employers and opportunities. We offer individual advising, workshops, career classes, and events designed to help students explore career paths, search for jobs and internships, and build networking strategies to launch their careers.
Requirements
The appointment is 20 hours per week for 9 months (summer employment negotiable). Term appointment renewable based on performance. Some evening work hours are required. Those planning to be graduate students at Kansas State University for the 2025-2026 academic year are encouraged to apply. If selected, you must provide evidence of acceptance in the Kansas State University Graduate School and enrollment in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester. A background check is required prior to finalizing an offer of employment.
Remuneration and Benefits
Salary range: $11,000-$12,000. The position meets requirements to qualify for in-state tuition rates and health insurance eligibility at Kansas State University. Modest professional development budget available.
Responsibilities
Advising
- Provide personalized guidance to students in defining career options, resume and cover letter building, job and internship searching, and interview preparation through drop-in advising, scheduled appointments, online consultation, and resume tune-ups.
Programming
- Plan and facilitate engaging workshops and presentations on career related topics, such as developing resumes/cover letters, searching for jobs and internships, interviewing, and networking.
- Engage with student organizations, classes and living communities at workshops and presentations.
- Assist full-time staff with special projects including, but not limited to, career fairs, networking events, employer engagement, mock interviews, and new program development.
Administrative
- Assist in hiring, training, and ongoing development of undergraduate student staff.
- Lead projects under the advisement of Career Center staff, such as program evaluation, curriculum development, and cross-unit collaboration.
- Participate in training sessions, advising meetings, and developmental performance reviews.
- Other duties as assigned by full-time staff.
