Pre-Audition Clinics

Early February and March

Optional but highly recommended — a great chance to learn directly from current and former Classy Cats, get familiar with the audition material, and develop the technique and style expected of a Classy Cat.

Audition Material Submission

Mid March

To audition for the Classy Cats, applicants must submit a completed application, a $30 fee, coach and teacher evaluations, a personal essay, a recent photo, and an audition video showcasing routines and technical skills. The K-State Fight Song routine will also be sent a week prior and must be learned before auditions.

💃 What We're Looking For

  • Versatility: Ability to perform various dance styles, including jazz, hip hop, cheer/pom, high-kick, lyrical, and field marching.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong technique with formal dance training preferred.

  • Performance Skills: Ability to learn routines quickly and perform with energy and confidence.

  • Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cohesively with peers.

Audition Components

  • Dance Combination: A short routine incorporating jazz and hip hop styles.

  • Fight Song Pom Routine: Candidates must learn this routine prior to auditions. Instructional videos are available on the K-State Marching Band website.

  • Technical Elements:

    • High kicks (left and right)

    • Splits (left and right)

    • Leap combinations: split, center, switch center, switch leaps, turning center

    • Double and triple pirouettes

    • Fouetté turns and turns in second

    • Leg grab turn

    • Marching techniques

These elements will be taught during the audition process.

Audition Attire

  • Black hot shorts

  • Any color sports bra or performance half-top

  • Jazz shoes

  • Full makeup

  • No jewelry (post earrings are acceptable)

  • Hair styled down with a front pouf, side pouf, front braid, or sides up
