Find a Faculty Mentor
K-State offers students the opportunity to connect with a faculty mentor in their college. Faculty mentors assist students with many things, including:
- Learning more about their field of study.
- Professional development opportunities, such as conferences and publications.
- Connecting students with research opportunities.
- Networking and career opportunities in their major.
- Discovering major courses that may be of interest to students.

Mentor and Student Responsibilities
A mentoring relationship requires mutual responsibility. This requires equal efforts on behalf of the faculty member and the student.
- Expectations and goals of the mentor and mentee should be discussed early in the relationship.
- Meeting frequency and preferred communication methods should be agreed upon. It takes both the mentor and mentee to make efforts at meeting and communicating to have an effective relationship.
- Mutual respect and trust must be present for a successful mentoring relationship. Respecting both the time and opinions of the other person go a long way in creating an honest and open mentoring relationship.
- Mentors and mentees learn from one another even though their roles differ.
