Plant pathology department hosts Samuel Markell for lecture on developing management tools for sunflower rust

Samuel Markell, associate professor and extension plant pathologist at North Dakota State University, will present the seminar "Developing Management Tools for Sunflower Rust" at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in 4031 Throckmorton Hall.

Sunflower rust, caused by the macrocyclic and autoecious pathogen Puccinia helianthi, is an economically important disease in the Northern Great Plains, particularly in North Dakota, where approximately 40–50 percent of the U.S. sunflower crop is produced annually.
