DEGREES OFFERED

Master of Music in vocal performance

The graduate student in the master of music degree program, with a faculty committee, develops a program of specialization in performance. The Master of Music degree at Kansas State University offers enough flexibility for a student to pursue a very specific path.

Bachelor of Music in vocal performance

The Bachelor of Music in vocal performance offers specialization in music performance and includes language study. In addition to preparing performers, this degree often serves as the basis for further study leading to teaching careers at the college or university level. Students pursuing vocal performance gain experience through opportunities with opera and solo performance.

Bachelor of Music in musical theater

Reflecting the growth and vitality of music theater activity at K-State, a specialization within the Bachelor of Music curriculum is available. This course of study includes classes in acting, stage movement, technical theater and dance, as well as in music.

Bachelor of Music Education with a vocal/choral emphasis

The Bachelor of Music Education degree leads to teacher certification. In addition to preparing a student to teach in the public schools, this degree can serve as preparation for nontraditional music careers and graduate study in music performance. The degree, of special interest to individuals who are aware of the rewards of music education careers, also serves the needs of aspiring professional musicians who realize that teaching can improve the economic means often necessary to pursue a professional career.

Bachelor of Arts in Music

The Bachelor of Arts follows the broadest aspect of a college education with an emphasis in Music. The student entering this program will be expected to take more courses in liberal arts than those in either the BACHELOR OF MUSIC or the BACHELOR OF MUSIC EDUCATION programs. The degree can prepare one for graduate study leading to the Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, as well as careers based on cultural concerns. This degree can also be oriented toward pre-professional or social and/or business opportunities.

Minor of Music with an emphasis in voice

Students pursuing other majors but have an interest in music may pursue a music minor to round out their education. The minor requires 19-21 hours of music courses.
